NAHAL Recordings is a label created in 2018, bicephaly curated by producer Paul Régimbeau (Mondkopf, Extreme Precautions, Autrenoir, FOUDRE!) and by multi-instrumentalist/photographer Frédéric D. Oberland (Oiseaux-Tempête, Le Réveil des Tropiques, FOUDRE!, The Rustle Of The Stars). As a Sister structure of the electronic label IN PARADISUM,NAHAL Recordings makes weird and wonderful vinyl records and physical objects (patches, silkscreen prints, T-shirts and the like) in limited editions.
NAHAL takes its name and its labyrinthic diagram from an insular mythology. Malekulans of Vanuatu call the orthodox home of dead, ‘Wies’, and say a ghost reaches it by traveling northwards, crossing the lagoon without effort, then passing through a distorted landscape. There it confronts Temes Savsaq, a female priest who sits in front of a rock, with a sand--‐traced figure before her called Nahal, ‘the Path’. As the ghost approaches, Temes Savaq wipes out half of the tracing and tells the traveller that before he proceeds any further he must complete the diagram correctly. His success will eventually map to him the path to the other world.
